KEKELI
There are 68 Kekeli Women across the Akatsi North and Akatsi South Districts, representing 68 unique communities, all with their own stories to tell.
And together, they completed another year of health promotion in their communities. For some Kekeli Women this means 14 years of service!
And across the 4 Kekeli cohorts, this translates to over 575 cumulative years of health promotion.
The Kekeli Program retention rate is 93% since the program began. For the second year in a row, not a single Kekeli Woman dropped out.
Their work prioritizes education, maternal and child health, wound care, health screening, and referral.
And in 2025 we aim to train our 5th Kekeli Cohort and further expand their reach.
IMPACT
In 2024, the Kekeli Women reached 82 unique communities in the Akatsi North and South Districts.
They conducted 1,879 teachings, reaching a total of 33,082 people!
They continued teaching a broad array of content, including but not limited to, maternal & infant health, hygiene & sanitation, malaria, chronic disease, and family planning.
They teach about safe childbirth and respond to labor emergencies, utilizing their training in the Home Based Life Saving Skills curriculum.
The Kekeli Women also treated 1,708 wounds and checked 5,297 blood pressures.
They made 412 referrals to local clinics for serious illness. Check out the Impact page on our website to read more.
And they continued to be a consistent presence and resource in rural communities that would otherwise go without. They are leaders and liaisons, educators and advocates.
NGO
Alnice, Georgina, David, Bridget, and Benedicta continued their steady leadership of the Kekeli Program. We are grateful with every turning of the season for the Ghana management team’s graceful and wise guidance of the program.
In 2024 we welcomed Bridget Bockor as our new Teaching Director following the passing of Sister Comfort. Read more about Bridget on our blog.
The USA Executive Team continued our work stateside, under the leadership of Dr. Brandy Holloman.
We are exploring an expansion of the Kekeli Program to include diabetic screening.
We’ve also been laying the groundwork for an expanded fundraising effort in 2025 to support our Kekeli expansion.
And we hired a Ghanaian auditing firm to conduct a three year historical audit, as well as annual audits moving forward.
Our goal is to ensure responsible use of resources, affirming one of our core organizational values.
The board of directors continues to meet twice each year to provide oversight, advice, and guidance on every aspect of our work.
Stay tuned in 2025 as we ask for your continued (and expanded!) support, in a time when this work is more necessary than ever.
FINANCES
In our fiscal year 2023/2024 we raised $51,312 from grants and donations.
We ended 2023 with 58 members of The Collective who give a total of $2,681 each month.
The Collective is the backbone of our revenue each and every year.
The steady support allows us to spend more time on programs and less time on fundraising.
If you’ve been considering joining The Collective, now is the time! We continue to see a decline in our monthly donor funding and would love to have you on board. Click here to join The Collective
