I came across an organization today that inspired me. It’s called Tiyatien Health and it is based in Liberia. Formed in response to the death of 12 women suffering from AIDS in a rural village in Liberia, it has moved mountains to train local people to be health workers and bring care to those in desperate need. Check out the 5 goals they set out:
- Target the poorest, most remote villages.
- Recruit, train, support and employ villagers to serve as professional frontline health workers.
- Provide comprehensive home-based care to women and children.
- Integrate home-based care with clinical services at primary health care facilities.
- Drive high performance through novel technology-driven training, research and information systems.
Pretty awesome eh? They also state they are seeking “justice through equity.” Reminds me of another organization that has served as a model and inspiration for me…Partners in Health.
We are hoping to spend more time on our blog writing about various goings on in the world of development, health workers, and women’s empowerment. It was Tiyatien Health that inspired me to continue the work today.
